Karen Shinkins

Karen was born and raised in Co. Kildare, Ireland. As a member of the Irish track team from 1994 until her retirement in 2006, Karen ran the 400m and represented her country at the highest level including the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, 4 World Championships and 4 European Championships. During those years Karen set 6 national records and was the first sprinter to medal for Ireland at a major championships when she took bronze at the 2003 European Championships in Vienna, Austria.

After the Sydney 2000 Olympics, Karen moved to Georgia to train with world renowned track coach Paul Doyle and his international group of elite and highly decorated

athletes. Georgia has since become home for Karen but she remains very connected to her homeland with frequent trips back to Ireland where the rest of her family still lives.

Off the track Karen is a wife, married to Paul Doyle, a mother to her adorable (biased of course) 9 month old son, Keane, has a cat called Fintan (an Irish name) and 2 dogs Dexter and Crooked. Nowadays Karen still loves to run, but purely for fun, is an avid photographer, likes to read whenever her busy life allows and is always up for an unwinding drink and a little craic with friends.
